Accountant — Creatures of Habit

Creatures of Habit is a sustainable apparel brand based out of Mumbai and Goa. We're looking for an experienced accountant to own the day-to-day finance function as we scale.

About the role

You'll be the person who keeps our books clean, our vendors paid, and our compliance airtight. We run a custom-built ERP that handles invoicing, bank reconciliation, GST/TDS, and payouts — your job is to operate it well, catch what it can't, and make sure every rupee is accounted for. You'll work directly with the founder and the ops team.

What you'll do

- Own monthly book closure — sales, purchases, expenses, payroll, bank recon

- Manage vendor invoices end-to-end: verification, GST/TDS treatment, scheduling payouts via RazorpayX

- Reconcile HDFC and RazorpayX bank accounts daily; investigate mismatches

- File GST returns (GSTR-1, 3B, 9), TDS returns, and PT/PF/ESIC challans on time

- Coordinate with our CA for quarterly reviews, annual audit, and ROC filings

- Track receivables across Shopify, marketplaces (Myntra/Ajio/Nykaa), and wholesale

- Process monthly payroll runs and statutory deductions

- Maintain fixed asset register, prepaid schedules, and accruals

- Flag anomalies — duplicate invoices, missed payments, cost spikes — before they become problems

- Work with the founder on cash flow planning and cost control

What we're looking for

- 3–6 years of accounting experience, ideally in D2C, retail, or apparel

- B.Com / M.Com / CA Inter; CA qualified is a plus but not required

- Strong grip on Indian GST, TDS, and payroll compliance

- Comfortable with Tally + willingness to work primarily inside our custom ERP

- Excel fluency — pivots, lookups, reconciliation models

- Detail-obsessed, organised, and able to explain numbers clearly to non-finance folks

- Honest, low-ego, and willing to ask questions until something is fully understood

Nice to have

- Experience with Shopify, marketplace settlements, RazorpayX

- Exposure to inventory accounting and COGS for a product business

- Familiarity with import/export documentation

Location & work style

Goa or Mumbai, in-person preferred. Small team, direct ownership, no bureaucracy.
