Job Description

Chemical Application Engineer Location: Hybrid (Parsippany, NJ office or Houston, TX) Join Our Visionary Team: OLI’s growing Support Team is at the center of our customer success mission—helping engineers across oil & gas, water treatment, critical materials, and carbon capture apply OLI’s industry‑leading predictive chemistry platform to solve problems that conventional software simply can’t. The work is varied, technically challenging, and genuinely impactful. Your Role As an Application Engineer on the Support Team, you will be a technical resource that customers and colleagues alike rely on. You’ll collaborate with account managers, scientists, product managers, and fellow engineers to diagnose complex support issues, develop reproducible process models, and translate OLI’s deep electrolyte chemistry into practical guidance. This role is built for someone who takes initiative, digs into hard problems independently, and takes satisfaction in turning a customer’s frustration into a win. You’ll work with customers across upstream oil & gas, refining, water treatment, lithium and critical materials extraction, and carbon capture—supporting use cases that range from scale prediction and corrosion modeling to thermodynamic validation and process API integration. No two support tickets look the same, and that’s the point. Key Responsibilities Successfully resolve technical support questions for topics such as: Software licensing, installation, and environment configuration Interpretation of OLI calculation results including speciation, scaling indices, corrosion rates, and phase equilibria Process model development, debugging, and validation across upstream, refining, water treatment, and critical materials workflows Support the continual development of the OLI training program: Course development, maintenance, and administration of OLI’s learning management system (LMS) Write articles for the OLI help center: Write clear and useful knowledge base articles to enable effective customer self‑service Complete relevant software release tasks: Validate and document bug fixes Update user guide documentation Document work processes and identify opportunities for automation Support the customer onboarding program: Support new enterprise customers to ensure OLI software is successfully installed, introduce training resources, and assist with initial model development Proactively identify recurring support patterns and surface them to the Product and Science teams as candidates for platform improvements or documentation enhancements Build example process models in OLI Studio: ScaleChem, OLI Flowsheet: ESP, and related tools to support help center articles, training courses, and customer onboarding We’re Looking For We’re looking for an early‑career engineer with 2–3 years of hands‑on experience in upstream oil & gas or a closely related industrial chemistry field, who is ready to bring that domain knowledge into a customer‑facing technical role. You have a working understanding of water chemistry, electrolyte systems, or corrosion science, and you know how to build and troubleshoot process models. More importantly, you are a self‑starter: you don’t wait to be told what’s broken—you find it, fix it, and document it so it doesn’t break again. You communicate clearly in writing and in conversation, pick up new software quickly, and take pride in helping customers succeed. Experience with OLI, Aspen, or similar process simulation tools is a strong plus; comfort with Python or API‑based workflows is a bonus. This person will build example process models, contribute articles to OLI’s help center and training platform, and become a credible technical resource for customers across multiple industries. We’re Offering A chance to be part of a visionary company that is solving complex global challenges. A collaborative and dynamic work environment where innovation is at the heart of what we do. Competitive compensation package, including incentives and bonuses based on performance. Opportunities for personal and professional growth. Required Competencies Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or chemical engineering 2–3 years of industry experience in upstream oil & gas, refining, water treatment, or related chemical process industries Practical understanding of electrolyte chemistry, aqueous systems, or chemical process simulation (OLI, Aspen, or equivalent) Comfort independently troubleshooting software issues, debugging model errors, and following technical problems through to resolution Strong communication skills—effective speaking and technical writing Demonstrated use of AI tools in daily technical work; curiosity about applying AI to streamline support workflows and content creation Helpful Qualifications, But Not Required Familiarity with upstream production chemistry: scale prediction, corrosion mechanisms, H₂S/CO₂ behavior, or produced water management Experience with OLI Studio: ScaleChem, OLI Flowsheet: ESP, or the OLI Process API Experience building and validating chemical process models in Aspen, HYSYS, ProMax, or similar simulation environments Track record of identifying and acting on opportunities to streamline workflows, automate repetitive tasks, or improve documentation quality Knowledge of Python, MATLAB, or another similar programming language Equal Opportunity Employer Equal Opportunity Employer OLI is an equal‑opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all. Applicants will be evaluated through a structured, rubric‑based interview process to ensure consistency and fairness. OLI supports equitable career progression. Advancement decisions are guided by consistent evaluation criteria and regular performance conversations. #J-18808-Ljbffr
