Job Title: Design Drafter
Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented Mechanical Designer / Drafter to support the design and development of industrial equipment within a manufacturing environment. This individual will be responsible for creating and modifying engineering drawings, developing 3D models, and supporting engineering teams with accurate documentation and design improvements. This role works closely with engineers and cross-functional teams to ensure designs are functional, manufacturable, and aligned with project requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Create and modify 2D drawings and 3D models using AutoCAD and similar CAD software.
  • Develop detail, assembly, and layout drawings for mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Interpret engineering requirements, specifications, and technical documents to produce accurate designs.
  • Generate and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and engineering documentation.
  • Perform basic engineering calculations such as dimensions, tolerances, materials, and weight.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to refine and improve designs.
  • Support design changes, revisions, and product updates.
  • Ensure designs meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Skills
  • Experience with AutoCAD (2D) and 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks and Creo.
  • Experience in mechanical drafting, design, or engineering technology.
  • Experience creating detailed drawings, assemblies, and 3D models.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Exposure to manufacturing or industrial environments.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with heavy equipment or industrial machinery design.
  • Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
  • Experience with BOM creation and ERP systems.
  • Understanding of design for manufacturability (DFM).
  • Associate's degree or certification in drafting/design or related field.
Work Environment
This position is based in a manufacturing facility and office setting. Employees can expect billable holiday and paid time off as part of the benefits package.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chattanooga, TN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $27.64 - $45.35/hr.
