Job Description

Position Summary The Health and Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing and supporting health and safety programs specific to metalworking, fabrication, and related industrial operations. This role provides expertise in hazard recognition, risk control, and compliance with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) , applicable regulations, and company standards. The Specialist will act as a subject matter expert in areas such as, machine guarding, hot work, ergonomics, and materials handling, while also serving as a certified trainer for critical industrial equipment and high-risk work.

Key Responsibilities Develop, deliver, and monitor safety training specific to metal services operations, including welding, cutting, grinding, machining, and press operations. Provide certified operator training on forklifts, bridge cranes, man lifts, and Working at Heights in accordance with regulatory and industry standards. Conduct regular workplace inspections, hazard assessments, and risk analyses for metal fabrication and processing equipment.

Implement and maintain safety programs in compliance with OHSA, Ministry of Labor guidelines, and industry best practices. Provide technical guidance on the safe use of personal protective equipment (PPE), machine guarding, ventilation, and hazardous materials handling. Lead and support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.

Collaborate with supervisors, joint health and safety committees, and workers to promote a proactive safety culture. Maintain safety documentation, training records, and compliance reporting requirements. Stay informed on changes to legislation, codes, and standards affecting the metals industry.

Qualifications Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Safety, or a related technical discipline is preferred. Minimum 5-10 years of experience in health and safety within a metal services, fabrication, or heavy manufacturing environment. Certified Trainer for forklifts, bridge cranes, man lifts, and Working at Heights (mandatory).

Strong working knowledge of hazards related to welding, cutting, grinding, hot work, and heavy machinery. Certification such as CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) , CHSC (Certified Health and Safety Consultant) , or equivalent designation is an asset. Demonstrated knowledge of Ontario OHSA and related regulations.

Excellent communication, facilitation, and problem-solving skills. Experience in training delivery, hazard assessments, and incident investigations. #J-18808-Ljbffr
