Nice to Have:

  • Experience with pricing, retail, or merchandising systems
  • Familiarity with Walmart systems (SMART, Price Engine, SWORD, PriceRT)
  • Experience with international pricing, tax‑inclusive pricing, or multi‑market systems
  • Exposure to DSL (Digital Shelf Labels) workflows
  • Experience supporting large‑scale store migrations

Job Description:

The Senior Java Developer will be a core contributor to the Price Engine initiative, a multi‑phase transformation program modernizing how Walmart International executes near real‑time price changes across stores and digital channels.

This role focuses on building and enhancing cloud‑native, event‑driven backend services that replace legacy SMART pricing with a scalable, multi‑tenant Price Engine platform. You will work on pricing rule execution, Kafka‑based integrations, audit pipelines, and downstream publishing, supporting pilots, audits, and large‑scale store rollouts across Canada and other international markets.

Key Responsibilities

1. Backend Development – Price Engine & SMART Integration

  • Design, develop, and maintain Java / Spring Boot microservices supporting Price Engine workflows.
  • Build and enhance SMART Backfeed services to publish real‑time price changes into SMART SOAP APIs during the transition period.
  • Implement and support Kafka publisher/consumer logic for:
  • SMART passthrough flows
  • Backfeed integrations
  • Data fanout to downstream systems
  • Ensure services are resilient, scalable, and aligned to global SPA (Single Platform Acceleration) standards.

2. Pricing Rule Execution & Data Processing

  • Implement and support Price Engine logic responsible for:
  • Home Office price
  • Event pricing
  • SIPC eligibility
  • Validation rules
  • PI Count & Finance Count
  • Markup / Markdown
  • WAS (Weighted Average Selling) price calculations
  • Persist and manage pricing data using Azure SQL and related cloud data services.
  • Optimize performance for high‑volume, near real‑time pricing events.

3. Audit Pipeline Development (SMART vs. Price Engine)

  • Build and enhance the Audit Data Pipeline (SMART → Kafka → Price Engine Audit).
  • Support parallel run scenarios where SMART and Price Engine operate simultaneously.
  • Enable comparison of pricing outputs to identify:
  • Deltas and mismatches
  • Missing attributes
  • Rule execution failures
  • Downstream impacts
  • Partner with engineering and business teams to refactor logic until parity thresholds are met.

4. E2E Testing, UAT & Pilot Support

  • Collaborate with QA and business teams to support end‑to‑end testing across integrated systems:
  • IQS, PriceX / NGP, EI
  • SWORD, PriceRT, Store Finance
  • Conflux / FlexPOS (market dependent)
  • Ecommerce (IRO)
  • Support UAT execution, defect resolution, and environment readiness.
  • Participate in pilot store rollouts for Canada, ensuring:
  • Real‑time pricing accuracy
  • Proper DSL label work order generation
  • Correct POS and store finance pricing

5. Hypercare & Store Rollouts

  • Provide hands‑on support during Hypercare windows, addressing:
  • Integration issues
  • Data discrepancies
  • Performance and latency concerns
  • Support extended pilots and Express store rollouts (first 10+ stores through full rollout).
  • Assist with production deployments, monitoring, stabilization, and post‑rollout validation.
  • Support performance, resiliency, and throughput testing at scale.
