HEABC leads and supports the strategic planning related to human resources and labour relations on behalf of British Columbia’s publicly funded health employers. HEABC is responsible for negotiating provincial agreements for 185,000 unionized health care employees including nurses, physician residents, ambulance paramedics, health science professionals, and more.

OPPORTUNITY
HEABC has an opening for a Legal Counsel, who performs a broad range of legal and consulting services including:
- Acting as counsel in a variety of arbitral hearing forums on cases that have high value and/or an industry impact.
- Establishing, maintaining, and fostering effective working relationships with member organizations, health sector unions and outside agencies.
- Providing legal advice relating to a comprehensive range of policy and legal issues.
- Represent members and/or HEABC in a variety of labour relations dispute resolution forums.
- Identifying areas for strategic litigation and member education.
- Participate in or assist with health sector collective bargaining.
Required Experience & Knowledge
- A degree in Law and current member in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia or a master’s degree in industrial relations, business or a related discipline from an accredited University.
- A minimum of three (3) years’ recent, related experience, preferably in labour and employment law, labour relations or human resources within a complex labour relations environment.
- Expertise in research, evaluation and interpretation of legal issues.
- Knowledge of health sector labour relations, related legislation, collective agreements and jurisprudence.
- Knowledge and expertise in legal research, evaluation, and interpretation of legal issues.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent strategic, analytical and problem-solving skills; a team player with strong interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, plan and execute work within demanding work schedules.
Salary Range
$108,147 to $141,943
In determining salary, HEABC considers many factors including the successful candidate’s skillset and experience as well as internal equity. The final salary offer will be at HEABC’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
Typical Hiring Range
$108,147 to $135,184
