Maintenance Mechanic, Aurora

This position is primarily responsible for performing preventive maintenance in a manufacturing operation to keep equipment safe, functional, and efficient by executing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance actions. In addition, the role assists with or assumes sole responsibility for machine troubleshooting and repair of mechanical and electrical issues. The position performs repairs, services, and maintenance on plant facilities and equipment to ensure production operates at maximum efficiency while controlling costs.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and failures on the plant floor.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and correct equipment malfunctions.
  • Perform electrical, plumbing, pneumatic, and hydraulic maintenance tasks.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on plant equipment in a thorough and safe manner.
  • Complete all assigned work orders within the time allotted.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and management.
  • Work effectively both independently and in a team-oriented environment.
  • Train production employees and other mechanics and demonstrate a willingness to be trained by other mechanics.
  • Utilize a tablet as required for documentation and communication.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team, supporting and communicating effectively with production line and maintenance personnel.
  • Interface with department supervisors, leads, and machine operators to determine the scope and urgency of maintenance assistance.
  • Assist contractors as needed.

Requirements

  • Must be able to work in an operational baking/manufacturing environment with exposure to hazards associated with machinery and equipment.
  • Must be able to work in hot and high ambient temperature conditions.
  • Must be able to perform pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, and climbing activities.
  • Must be able to remain on feet for the entire shift.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, and use hand motor coordination on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to perform tasks requiring standing, lifting, pulling, and climbing on machinery and/or tooling.
  • Must be able to move up and down building stairways in a multi-level plant to reach job assignments and perform required tasks.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, including stacking, unstacking, and carrying materials.
  • Must be able to stand and/or stoop for prolonged periods of time in a hot environment.
  • Must be able to work weekends and/or overtime as required.
  • Must be able to commit to a continuous improvement, team-based work environment.
  • Must be able to use a variety of communication methods on a frequent basis.

Qualifications Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong electrical knowledge.
  • General knowledge of maintenance functions including electrical systems, plumbing, conveyors, motors and gearboxes, and the ability to read and interpret schematics and blueprints.
  • Ability to safely and effectively use all power tools, hand tools, drill presses, and shop tools.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents written in English.
