Job Description

Job Title: Mechanical Design & Execution Engineer

Location: Sriperumbudur, Chennai

Experience Required: Minimum 7 to 10 Years in SPM / Automation / Machine Assembly

Qualification: Diploma / BE – Mechanical / Automation / Automobile Engineering

Shift: General / Night Shift (may be rotational shifts)

Key Responsibilities

1. Design & Documentation

  • Develop compact, precise, and efficient machine designs tailored to customer specifications.
  • Prepare ISO-compliant design documentation — including Bill of Materials (BOMs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and detailed exploded views with part numbering and reference drawings.
  • Perform detailed design calculations for:
  • Motor and gearbox selection (torque, speed, and load analysis) especially for belt/roller conveyors, lifters, loaders & unloaders.
  • Linear motion systems (LM rails, ball screws, conveyor systems, loaders, couplings, pulleys, timing belts)
  • Pneumatic systems (actuator sizing, air consumption, pressure/flow calculations)
  • Conduct BOM comparison, analysis, and equivalent part replacement to ensure cost-effectiveness and availability of components.

2. Assembly, Testing & Troubleshooting

  • Lead machine assembly and integration with assigned manpower, ensuring timely completion of build and trials.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and motion-related issues, identify root causes, and implement design modifications to enhance reliability and performance.
  • Participate actively in installation, commissioning, and testing at both in-house and client locations, including occasional night shifts during critical project phases.

3. Project Coordination & Execution

  • Independently manage assigned project tasks, track progress, and prepare technical progress reports.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams—Electrical, Controls, Procurement, and Production—to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Coordinate with external vendors, OEMs, and fabricators for component procurement and technical validation.

4. Material & Manufacturing Process Expertise

  • Apply sound knowledge of material properties, heat treatment, surface finishing, machining tolerances, and manufacturing feasibility during design.
  • Integrate OEM-standard components (e.g., motors, actuators, sensors, pneumatics) into machine assemblies with proper validation and fitment checks.

5. Quality, Risk & Compliance

  • Perform Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and identify potential design risks early in the development phase.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards, quality norms, and safety guidelines.
  • Prepare detailed 2D manufacturing drawings with GD&T annotations as per ISO/ASME standards.

Essential Technical Skills

  • 3D Modelling & 2D Detailing: Proficient in SolidWorks and AutoCAD, including GD&T.
  • Machine Design: Strong experience in Special Purpose Machine (SPM) development, robotics interfaces, and pneumatic/actuator selection.
  • Engineering Calculations: Proficiency in mechanical system sizing, torque-speed relationships, and component selection.
  • BOM Management: Skilled in BOM analysis, comparison, and cost-effective part replacement.
  • Manufacturing Knowledge: Understanding of sheet metal design, machining processes, surface treatments, and material behavior.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and project coordination skills.
  • Strong leadership ability during machine assembly, testing, and installation phases.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Automation Engineering
  • 5–9 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in an industrial automation or SPM manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in pneumatic systems, motor and sensor integration, and BOM preparation.
  • Hands-on experience in machine assembly, debugging, and design optimization.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T, material selection, and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency in English; knowledge of Chinese is an advantage but not mandatory.

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to work on challenging automation projects with real impact.
  • A collaborative, interdisciplinary, and international team environment.
  • Creative freedom and strong scope for career growth in a performance-driven startup culture.
  • Access to a corporate benefits program and professional development resources.
