Location: T alegaon (or specify exact plant location)

About the Role

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer- Quality (Assembly Line) who will be responsible for ensuring product quality during and after assembly operations. This role focuses on in-process inspection, defect analysis, implementation of quality standards, and driving continuous improvement to achieve zero-defect delivery .

Key Responsibilities

1. Assembly Line Quality Control

  • Perform in-process inspections to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications
  • Monitor critical parameters such as torque, alignment, fitment, and functionality
  • Establish quality checkpoints across assembly stages
  • Ensure adherence to SOPs, Work Instructions, and Control Plans

2. In-Process Quality Assurance

  • Monitor CTQ (Critical-to-Quality) parameters
  • Conduct dimensional checks, torque validation, alignment checks, and audits
  • Perform Layered Process Audits (LPA)

3. Quality Documentation & Compliance

  • Prepare Control Plans, PFMEA inputs, inspection check sheets, and boundary samples
  • Validate and calibrate gauges, fixtures, and torque tools
  • Ensure compliance with standards such as ISO 9001 / IATF 16949

4. Defect Prevention & Problem Solving

  • Analyze assembly line defects such as:
  • Fitment issues
  • Torque failures
  • Leakage concerns
  • Bearing/press-fit issues
  • NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness)
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis using 5 Why, Ishikawa, and 8D methodologies
  • Implement CAPA and ensure effectiveness

5. Customer & Supplier Quality

  • Handle customer complaints and prepare 8D reports
  • Coordinate with suppliers for incoming quality issues
  • Support PPAP documentation (MSA, Cp/Cpk, Dimensional Reports)

6. Continuous Improvement

  • Drive Kaizen, Poka-Yoke, and Zero-Defect initiatives
  • Conduct SPC monitoring, DOE, and trend analysis
  • Reduce COPQ (Cost of Poor Quality)

7. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Production, Maintenance, Design, and Supplier Quality teams
  • Train operators on quality standards and defect identification

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical assemblies (fasteners, torque, bearings, seals, tolerances)
  • Understanding of GD&T and tolerance stack-up
  • Hands-on experience with quality tools: SPC, MSA, FMEA, 8D
  • Experience with measuring instruments: CMM, torque analyzers, height gauges, leak testers
  • Familiarity with ISO / IATF standards

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical & problem-solving ability
  • Attention to detail
  • Good communication and reporting skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced shop-floor environment

Qualifications

  • B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering (Mandatory)
  • 3- 6 years of experience in Assembly Line Quality
