About the Team The Data Science & Engineering (DSE) team consists of analytics engineers and data scientists with diverse backgrounds in mathematics, operations research, economics, computer science, engineering, and business. Together, they enable data‑driven decision making and develop sophisticated data products across the organization. The team builds a high‑quality, scalable data warehouse that serves as the foundation for all company insights while leveraging machine learning and advanced algorithms to create smarter financial products.
They also use decision science to understand the cause and effect of business decisions, ensuring every strategic move is backed by empirical evidence. About the Role We are hiring a Senior Data Scientist for the Fraud team. The team is responsible for enabling Wealthsimple to grow safely by balancing fraud risk and client experience and is staffed with seasoned data experts supported by product managers, software developers, and fraud strategists.
A successful candidate blends expertise in product analytics, machine learning, and experimental design while communicating effectively with stakeholders. What You’ll Do Work closely with product managers to identify business opportunities, define success metrics, and execute product strategies to improve client experience. Develop and deploy machine‑learning models for fraud detection.
Design and analyze experiments for new product/feature launches. Monitor and report fraud trends and client experience gaps. Apply simple solutions – Occam's razor is your friend.
Take ownership and ship incremental iterations. Teach and learn from teammates, valuing others’ success. Skills You Bring Experience in product analytics and experimental design.
Experience building end‑to‑end machine‑learning pipelines. Data storytelling: ability to explain findings to non‑technical audiences. Strong technical skills in SQL & Python.
Comfortable with software engineering best practices. Results‑driven: keep it simple to achieve product goals. Curiosity: willing to dive deep into product strategies and business context.
