The Jaipur Studio ®

Jaipur, RajasthanFull-timeMid LevelOn-site

Job Description

Company Description

The Jaipur Studio® (TJS) is a ready-to-wear brand rooted in the cultural heritage of Jaipur with a design studio in Hyderabad. Renowned for its versatile and empowering casual-wear collections for women, TJS celebrates ethnic beauty through the innovative use of experimental textiles, vibrant prints, and meticulous craftsmanship. The brand is deeply connected to its origins, fostering creativity while enhancing the unique identity of every 'Woman of TJS'.

Role Description

We are looking for a designer-merchandiser who is equal parts creative and commercial: someone who can build collections that are beautiful on the eye and intelligent on the P&L.

This is a founding team-level role. You will own the product calendar end-to-end — from trend interpretation and fabric sourcing to range planning, sampling, and launch. You will work directly with the founders and the marketing team, with real say in what we build and how we tell its story.

What will you own

  • Build seasonal and occasion-led collections across our core categories: daily ethnic, festive, and occasion wear — anchored in natural handcrafted fabrics
  • Drive the full product development cycle: concept → mood board → fabric swatch → sampling → revision → production-ready spec
  • Lead range planning and open-to-buy management: assortment width, depth, pricing tiers, and style-level contribution margin discipline
  • Own the supplier and artisan ecosystem in Rajasthan — identify new craft clusters, negotiate pricing, and maintain quality at scale
  • Work closely with the marketing team to develop product narratives, PDP copy direction, and campaign briefs for each launch
  • Analyse category performance data (sell-through, returns, ROAS by style) and feed learnings back into the next product cycle
  • Track Indian ethnic wear trends across Instagram, trade shows (Lakme, India International Garment Fair), and Tier 1 offline retail
  • Manage the production calendar tightly against the Indian festival and gifting cycle

You should apply if

  • You have 3–6 years in fashion design and/or buying & merchandising, with hands-on experience in Indian ethnic wear — daily wear, festive, or occasion
  • You understand handcraft techniques: block printing, natural dyeing, hand embroidery, weaves — you can walk a production floor and spot a quality issue
  • You think in spreadsheets as naturally as you think in sketchbooks — OTB, contribution margin, and sell-through rate are not foreign words
  • You have sourced fabrics or finishes from Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Sanganer, or comparable clusters and have working vendor relationships
  • You've worked in a D2C or fast-moving online brand and understand how product decisions ripple into digital marketing performance
  • You are a strong communicator in Hindi and English — you will brief artisans, write product names, and sit in cross-functional reviews in the same week
