Junior Tax & Compliance Officer Toronto, ON | Full-time | Permanent | On-site Family Office associated with IKO Industries Ltd., a Canadian‑owned manufacturing and distribution company of roofing and building materials. Prepare files for submission to professional service providers to meet tax compliance requirements in Canada, the US and other jurisdictions.
Assist professional service providers in the preparation of US income tax returns and other requisite forms for holding and investment corporations. Manage correspondences with tax authorities, reconcile tax accounts, and report to management and owners. Provide assistance with audits by tax authorities through tax analysis, information gathering and status documentation.
Plan and implement an income tax compliance process to ensure reporting deadlines are met. Manage external service providers in numerous jurisdictions to meet tax and business objectives efficiently. Collaborate in the planning and execution of repatriation transactions to identify tax withholding and liability issues, and propose alternate scenarios.
Work with the CFO‑Family Office on Canadian and multi‑foreign jurisdictional tax planning (inbound and outbound) to achieve tax and operational efficiencies. Work with the CFO‑Family Office on special transactions including mergers, acquisitions, business reorganizations and estate planning. Identify and communicate trends and developments in tax relevant to High‑Net‑Worth individuals and corporations.
Work Allocation 40% Canadian Corporate compliance 20% Individual Tax Compliance 25% Planning & M&A Qualifications 3‑5 years of progressive experience with a public accounting firm or a mid‑level tax position in industry. Completion or enrollment in the CPA In‑Depth Tax Course or a Masters of Tax program. Strong Excel and Visio skills.
Ability to work independently. Contribute to team objectives. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
High‑level client service skills, meeting deadlines. Familiarity with Canadian tax research tools and tax software. Prior exposure to US tax rules beneficial.
Proven experience advising individuals and corporations on income tax issues and general business matters. Strong analytical capability, sound business sense and creative mind. Integrity, honesty, and sound judgment regarding confidential matters.
