Job Summary: We are seeking a hands-on, highly committed Production Manager to oversee operations at our rice and flour milling facility that also packages dry beans in northwest Houston. This role is not for the faint of heart—the right candidate must be prepared to work long hours, including nights and weekends, in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
The ideal candidate has a proven background in food manufacturing, strong leadership skills, and is fluent in both English and Spanish. This is a critical, on-the-floor leadership role that requires full ownership of production performance, employee oversight, and process optimization. Key Responsibilities Production Oversight Lead daily rice and flour operations, ensuring production targets and quality standards are met.
Monitor production metrics, identify inefficiencies, and implement corrective actions quickly. Coordinate with supply chain, logistics, and procurement to manage raw materials and inventory. Manage receiving and transfers from raw material storage facility.
Quality & Compliance Ensure all products meet internal and regulatory quality requirements (FDA, HACCP, etc.). Oversee and enforce robust quality control systems, audits, and inspections. Promptly investigate and resolve any product or process issues.
Team Management Directly manage and motivate hourly and supervisory production staff across multiple shifts. Develop schedules to match fluctuating production demands —including extended shifts and weekends. Provide coaching, evaluations, and cross-training to build a high-performing, reliable team.
Safety & Environment Enforce a zero-compromise culture around health, safety, and environmental compliance. Conduct regular safety meetings, hazard assessments, and incident reviews. Process Improvement Lead and execute process improvement initiatives to reduce downtime, waste, and cost.
Partner with maintenance and engineering teams to keep equipment running at peak performance. Analyze data and production trends to drive measurable improvements. Qualifications Education Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Engineering, Business, or related field preferred.
Relevant certifications (e.g., Six Sigma, HACCP, GMP, OSHA) are a plus. Required Experience Minimum 5 years of hands-on production management experience in food manufacturing , ideally in rice, flour, or grain milling. Strong working knowledge of food safety standards and regulatory requirements.
Must be fully bilingual (Spanish/English) — essential for effective workforce management. Skills & Attributes Strong leadership presence on the production floor; leads by example. Comfortable with physical work and engaging directly in plant operations.
Proficient with production tracking systems, KPIs, and Microsoft Office Suite. Problem-solver with the ability to act quickly in high-pressure situations. Physical & Work Requirements Ability to stand, walk, climb, and lift (up to 50 lbs) in a manufacturing environment.
Willingness to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays as required . Comfortable working in environments with heat, noise, and dust (PPE provided). Note : This role involves significant time on the production floor, including active supervision of personnel, troubleshooting equipment or process issues, and ensuring product quality.
